What is Poly Giving Day, and why does it matter?
Poly Giving Day is more than just a day—it’s an opportunity to come together and make a lasting impact. Every gift, no matter the size, directly supports the people and programs that define the Poly experience. By giving, sharing, and celebrating, we strengthen Poly’s legacy and ensure that current and future students thrive.
How can I be involved in Giving Day?
You can participate by making a gift, spreading the word, and encouraging others to give. Whether it’s sharing on social media, reaching out to classmates, or setting up a matching gift challenge, your involvement makes a difference.
Where does my gift go?
You can choose to designate your gift to a specific area or to our greatest area of need—the Poly Fund, which supports academic programs, faculty development, student life, and financial aid. Every dollar helps enhance the Poly experience for both current and future students.
I don’t see my preferred fund listed. Can I designate my gift to a specific area?
Yes, absolutely! While the default option is to give to the area of greatest need, the Giving Day form allows you to write in a specific designation. Just select “area of greatest need,” and a prompt will appear for you to enter your preferred fund or program. Your gift will be directed accordingly.
Why do you need my support?
Tuition only covers 80% of the full Poly education. Philanthropic support helps bridge that gap, ensuring that students have access to exceptional learning experiences, dedicated faculty, and enriching opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. Your support helps sustain and strengthen our community.
I made my gift to Poly earlier this year. Does that count for Giving Day?
Thank you so much for your generous support of Poly! We’re truly grateful. Giving Day is a special celebration focused on community participation, and gifts made during this 24-hour window are counted exclusively toward the Giving Day campaign and leaderboard.
If you’re able, we invite you to make an additional gift to help boost our Giving Day totals and continue building momentum. Every gift—no matter the size—makes a difference and helps strengthen our community.
I’d like to create a matching challenge—how does that work?
Thank you! You have the option to create either a match or a challenge:
- A match allows you to match gifts dollar-for-dollar up to a certain amount.
- A challenge unlocks once a specific number of donors or a dollar goal is reached.
You can also target your match or challenge to a specific group—like your class year or your affiliation.
To set one up, simply initiate your match or challenge directly on the Giving Day platform. A member of our Giving Team will follow up. You’re also welcome to email us at [email protected] with any questions.
I heard that the class participation winners get to dunk Head of School John Bracker. Is that true?
Yes! The class with the highest parent participation in giving will win the chance to dunk Head of School John Bracker in the dunk tank at the 108th Poly Pet and Hobby Show on April 25. Each student in the winning class will receive a ball to take their shot!
Are there other ways to give besides using a credit card?
Yes! Our Giving Day platform offers several convenient options:
- Pledge to send a check
- Venmo
- PayPal
- Apple Pay
- Give through your Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)
- Even Bitcoin!
- For gifts of stock or wires: email [email protected]
If you’d prefer to make your gift by phone, feel free to call us at 626-396-6330—we’d be happy to assist!
Is my gift tax deductible?
Polytechnic School is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that provide donors with tax benefits to the full extent of the law. Your gift qualifies for a tax deduction in accordance with IRS regulations, during the calendar year that you make your gift. After making a gift you will receive an email with information that can serve as a receipt for your files. Please consult your tax professional for more information.
And just a reminder, Poly’s fiscal year runs from from July 1- June 30th.
